Toys that get kids moving

Girl on a toy horse

These days, children are spending more and more time sitting still; with a tablet, TV, or other screen within reach, it’s tempting to spend hours engaging in passive activities. Yet physical activity is important for young children’s development. It improves motor skills and physical fitness and has a positive effect on concentration, mood, and self-confidence. Fortunately, being active doesn’t have to be boring at all—with the right toys, it’s actually one big party!

Why Active Play Is So Important

For young children, physical activity means more than just running or jumping. It is the foundation for learning to coordinate their bodies. Every time they balance, climb, crawl, or ride, they strengthen their muscles, improve their balance, and develop their spatial awareness. By combining these activities with play, children have fun while simultaneously developing important skills.

That’s why toys that get children moving are a valuable addition to any household and often a perfect way to channel that endless energy in a positive direction.

Using Imagination to Move Ride-On Toys

One of the most fun types of active toys is ride-on toys that children can actually sit on and move around in themselves. Think, for example, of a toy horse to ride. By moving their legs up and down naturally, the child sets the animal in motion—without batteries or a motor. It feels like riding a horse, but safely indoors or on the patio.

Also, the toy unicorns They’re incredibly popular. They get kids moving and also spark their imagination. Suddenly, they’re a princess on an adventure or a knight in an enchanted forest!

Jumping, rolling, and balancing

In addition to riding, jumping, rolling, and balancing are also great ways to get children to play actively. Jumping balls, wobble cushions, and small balance beams are fun for both indoors and outdoors. They challenge children to maintain their balance and try out new movements.

Even simple games with a ball or a hula hoop can be enough to get kids moving—and they’re also fun to play together.

Active Play with Animals

Kids love animals, and how fun is it when they can ride them, too? In addition to horses and unicorns, there are plenty of other fun options that literally get kids moving. Think of a cool tiger on wheels or a curious elephant on wheels.

These animals all work the same way: moving your body brings the animal to life. This means children are constantly being physically active, but in a playful and safe way.

Active toys for indoors and outdoors

Moving toys don’t have to be limited to outdoor use. Especially if the toys are stable and soft, children can also play with them indoors. Animal Riding’s ride-on animals are a perfect example of this. They glide easily across a wooden floor or low-pile carpet and offer the same active play experience as outdoors.

Is the weather nice? Then just roll the ride-on toy outside for a ride in the yard or on the sidewalk. That way, movement becomes part of every moment of the day.

Play and exercise go hand in hand—if you have the right toys at home. From a mechanical horse to a cheerful panda on wheels, children are challenged to use their bodies and let their imaginations run wild. The result? Happy children who grow up to be active, healthy, and creative.
